What I’m Shopping for Right Now—And Why

One of the questions I get asked all the time is:
“What are you looking for these days?”

And the truth is—my list is always evolving. That’s part of the magic. Every treasure hunt is different, shaped by the season, the feeling I want to create, or a client’s wild request that sends me down a rabbit hole (my favorite kind). So here’s a peek inside my current wish list—the pieces I’m dreaming about, digging for, and hoping to unearth at the next estate sale, flea market, or tucked-away antique shop.

  1. Ornate Frames (No Matter What’s Inside)
Lately, I’ve been drawn to the frame itself—aged gilt, carved wood, Florentine flourishes. I’ll take it even if the art isn’t quite right (because that can always change). A stunning frame can elevate a simple photo, a mirror, or even be hung empty as its own piece of art.
  2. Vintage Art with an Ode to Nature Give me moody florals, soft landscapes, pastoral scenes, and even charming old wildlife prints. I’m always looking for pieces that feel like a window to another world—a quieter one with tall grass, misty lakes, or sun-drenched fields.
  3. Mirrors with Soul From foxed glass to hand-carved edges, I’m always looking for mirrors that feel storied. I especially love odd shapes and ones that look like they belonged in a manor house or moody old powder room.
  4.  Marble & Alabaster Everything Pedestals, urns, bowls, and tiny accent pieces—if it’s made of marble or alabaster, I’m interested. The weight, the veining, the quiet luxury of natural stone makes any space feel elevated.
  5. Trinket Dishes That Spark Joy I’m a sucker for a good little dish—especially ones that hold a story or spark a memory. Perfect for catching jewelry on a nightstand or soap beside a sink. Next to a sleek modern sink, a vintage trinket dish feels like a little wink of soul—proof that utility and beauty can (and should) live side by side. The more personality, the better.
  6. Silver (Tarnished in All the Right Ways) Whether it’s a mismatched set of hotel silver, a footed tray, or a trophy cup with someone else’s name still etched on the front—I can’t resist a good piece of patinaed silver. It brings such quiet elegance to a table or vignette. Bonus points if it’s engraved.
  7. Vintage Glassware with a Twist Cut crystal, etched designs, colored glass—especially when it feels like it came from a cocktail party in 1962. I love the mix of function and flair. You’ll never regret a pretty glass.
  8. Painted Folk Art & Primitive Portraits There’s something deeply charming about old folk pieces—paintings that feel naïve, honest, and full of heart. Right now, I’m especially drawn to faces. Portraits that make you pause, lean in, and wonder who they were.
  9. Leather-Top Desks & Brass-Laden Furniture The hunt is on for pieces that feel like they came from a private study—classic, masculine, layered. Think mid-century campaign furniture, anything with brass corners or leather inlay. I imagine these in moody dens or cozy reading nooks.
  10. Little Things with Big Personality Sometimes it’s not the big-ticket item I’m after—it’s the one tiny object that brings everything to life. Vintage canes, carved animals, miniature vessels. The soul of a home is in its details.

Want In on the Hunt? If any of this has your heart beating faster, I invite you to join The Hunt Club—my weekly roundup of standout estate sales, sourcing tips, and behind-the-scenes peeks at what I’m finding in the wild. It’s like a treasure map, but prettier.

Treasure Among the Pines

Some places find you. Mine had been standing quietly since 1939—tucked into the trees, perched above a lake in northern Michigan, weathered and wise, waiting. I hadn’t planned to find a cabin that...

Mackinac on the Fourth: Fireworks, Front Porches & the Feeling of Another Era

Every year, in the weeks leading up to the Fourth of July, I slip into a slower rhythm at our 1939 log cabin in northern Michigan. It’s a place where the days are measured in lake swims, antique pi...
